Home (2009) is a French documentary film directed by Yann Arthus-Bertrand. The film is almost entirely composed of aerial shots of various places on Earth. It showcases the diversity of life on our planet and how humanity’s actions are threatening the ecological balance. The English version of the film was narrated by Glenn Close, while the Spanish version was narrated by Salma HayekHome was released simultaneously on June 5, 2009, in cinemas across the globe, on DVD, Blu-ray, television, and on YouTube, opening in 181 countries. The concept of the documentary was inspired by the director’s book Earth from Above. The film was financed by the luxury group Kering.
The documentary was filmed in various stages due to the expanse of the areas portrayed. Over eighteen months, director Yann Arthus-Bertrand and a team flew in a small helicopter through various regions in over fifty countries. They used high-definition Cineflex cameras suspended from a gyro-stabilized sphere to capture smooth images. Raw footage totaled 488 hours.
